A 15 Year old Kid stands outside Electronics Boutique awaiting the most anticipated title since video games began. That game was of course ‘Ocarina of time’
13 years pass, this 15 year old kid is 28, and has just had the opportunity to play Ocarina Of Time a new platform. The Nintendo 3DS.
Zelda was challenging, it was moving, and breath taking. Anyone in my generation will remember the joy of learning the first melody, and the frustration at finding the last key in the water temple before you could progress any further.
Not only was Zelda a classic RPG, but it was such a vast and open game. One where there as many secrets and sub-games as Nintendo could squeeze into the 256megabit cartridge. You can play it endlessly and still not collect every item or beat every challenge.
Pure perfection.
In the 13 years that has passed, Nintendo has lost many battles against the giants of Microsoft and Sony but for me video gaming will never again reach the genius of Miyamoto’s masterpiece.
At last Zelda has made its triumphant return, and it is more beautiful than ever.
My Nephew has recently become the proud owner of Zelda, and still being 12 mentally I had to put it through its paces. Some changes are for the good, some are not so good.
The best bit about the N64 was the ergonomic controller that has not since been matched, and the 3DS loses out as a result as it does not have the unique ’c’ button configuration.
The other feature I found both useful and frustrating is that you have to move the 3DS to aim the slingshot and not the analogue stick.
This aside, it is still a joy to play, and not only that but it is now much more breathtaking to look at.
With the change in technology comes the improvement in graphics, and boy does it look good.
I’ll leave you with this, my childhood self will be forever in awe of this wondrous game, and the joy it still brings.
The Legend Of Zelda:- Ocarina Of Time- A Classic Quest for a new generation.
one of the greatest games of all time and as such will never be able to recreate the feeling you get playing this game for the first time on N64 but nintendo did a good job to still make it enjoyable nice review mate
ReplyDeleteCheers man, as I said its still good but not quite the same, i'v played through the original version (game cube disc) recently on my big-ass tv and its just immensely enjoyable still. Also had the satisfaction of catching the biggest damn fish in the pond this time, only took 13 years.......
